Skiing or Summer Sun? Heliocare is the Best

Heliocare is a fantastic range of sun protection ideal for all skin types. It provides exceptional protection from the skins harmful UV rays. It is the only range which contains Fernblock Photoimmunoprotection Technology; advanced defence - on the skin and from within.
Heliocare is the ideal choice, either for protection on winter skiing holidays or summer beach holidays.

Heliocare is available in capsules, creams, skin silk and gels with SPF from 30 - 90.

There are also fabulous compacts available for everyday use in normal and oil free formulations.

While a little sunshine is good for you, use Heliocare to reduce the signs of ageing caused by over exposure to the sun.

UVA rays make up 95% of the skins rays and is present even on cloudy days and in the winter. UVA penetrates deep into the skin and damages the dermis - It accelerates ageing of the skin by triggering free radicals or reactive oxygen species (ROS) that damage collagen, elastin and the underlying skin architecture. UVA can also cause skin reactions, pigmentation problems and reduces the skins natural defence mechanisms.

UVB is more prevelant on sunny days and during the summer. It only penetrates the upper layer of the epidermis, causes tanning but can rapidly cause reddening, burning and epidermal damage.

So check it out - Heliocare: Ideal for easy, on the go protection. Pop in your handbag on holiday or just for everyday use.

2011 Spring Make Up and Fashion Trends

I don't know about you but at this time of year I start to think about changing my wardrobe and digging out all of my Spring Summer clothes in preperation for the warmer weather. This year the catwalk saw bursts of bright colours with designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg and Gucci mixing and matching bright colours such as tangerine and turquoise.

There was also a hippy feel with flowers, flowing cuts, bright whites complimented with nudes and the ever faithful denim. I am also over the moon that the fantastic maxi dresses of last year will continue to be bang on trend this year and can be brought up to date with new season jewellery and sandals.

Spring/summer 2011 is all about girlie yet graceful, complex and bold and stylish and chic.

This season you can break all the rules and mix and match whether it be amazing jewel colours or florals and denim. There is also a 70's vibe with flares and knitted shorts shown on the catwalk.

One of the easiest ways to update your look this spring is to adapt your make-up and one of the hottest trends is statement lips in block brights to compliment the fantastic colours on the catwalk. Bold lips is one of the easiest ways to change your look, keep the make-up fairly neutral and use a good quality lip liner such as Mineralogie Lip Liner.

Corals, Reds and Pinks are bang on trend and compliment the fashion trends this Spring. I absolutely love gloMinerals Lipstick in Siren or Rasberry but take care top choose a colour which suits your skin tone. To make your lips really stand out, use a white pencil just above the cupids bow and just underneath the centre of the bottom lip and smudge in to highlight your lips.

Put a Spring in your Step and in Your Skin

As spring approaches, we can all start to feel the gentle warming of the sun and start to think about the hot sunny days to come! Yes I know it maybe a little premature, but it’s always good to have something to look forward to. Now this is the question “Who wants to look their best” when we start to peel off our layers of winter clothing. Oh the white skin!! Yikes, get out the false tan!

But just hang on a minute, look at the quality of your white skin that has been hidden from the harsh winter elements, yes you guessed it! It’s by far better quality than the skin on your face that has been subject to everyday exposure.
So what can we do?

Well, I would highly recommend skin peeling. Even a superficial skin peel will shed off the outer layers of dead skin that will be harbouring your fresher more vibrant skin underneath. I usually use Skin Tech Easy Phytic Peel, which is a slow release superficial peel for clients who do not wish to or cannot undergo a visible desquamation (shedding). It is an adjuvated, saponified solution made up of phytic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid and glycolic acid, the adjuvants allowing the progressive yet thorough action of the acids.

These highly effective peels can be used for congested skin, acne, pigmentation, discolouration, maintenance and anti-ageing.  The main benefit to clients is an increase of thickness of the epidermis, enhanced quality of elastic fibres and increased collagen density.

We recommend the use of Skintech Vitamin E cream following a skintech easy phytic peel, to maintain and improve the effects.

A Real Spring in Your Skin, Now we can all look our best, Simple and Effective.

The Easiest Way to Peel an Orange

Cellulite or "orange peel skin" is a dimpling of the skin that occurs mainly in women on the pelvic region, lower limbs and abdomen.

It is caused by excess saturated fat or fat based toxins which render fat cells immobile. If you strictly avoid dietary sources of saturated fat and eat only sources of essential oils, fat cells decongest and become softer.

What causes cellulite?

As it maily occurs in women, it is also thought that hormones can have a lot to do with the development of cellulite. Hereditary plays a role also, if you want to know whether you might get cellulite, look at your mother. If you suffer from cellulite or think you might become prone to it, nows the time to start looking after yourself.

So what can you do to help rid yourself of "orange peel" skin?
  • Diet - Reduce the amount of saturated fat intake, avoid meat and dairy products and gain essential fatty acids from seeds. Eat plenty of high water-content foods such as fruit and vegetables. The pectin found in apples, carrots and other fruit and vegetables is an important phytochemical which strengthens the immune and detoxification systems of the body.
  • Water - drink lots of water to stimulate circulation to and from the fat cells and improve lymphatic drainage.
  • Massage/skin brushing - massaging the skin can also improve lymphatic drainage and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Vitamin A, Vitamin E and retinol can help repair damaged tissue and nourish the skin. Use a cream such as Skintech Actilift Body which repairs collagen and elastin cells and has a visible lifting effect. We also love Jan Marini Bioglycolic resurfacing body scrub and Bioglycolic hand and body lotion.
  • Excercise - The fact that working out improves circulation, removes excess fluid and tones muscles, means that skin will look smoother, regardless of the cellulite. To stimulate your circulation and boost lymphatic drainage you need to think of your diaphragm and stomach muscles as a piston, so you need to aerobically exercise your whole body for around half an hour up to five times a week for best results. Include dancing, cycling, sit-ups, squats and leg curls and finish with long stretches.
Follow these tips to peel away the orange skin and reveal brighter, more beautiful skin!

Spring Skincare Tips

Sunday 20th March is the Spring or Vernal Equinox, where the day and night are equal length. This means we are going to start seeing lighter nights (yipee!)

The signs of spring are all around us, crocuses, daffodils and snowdrops are popping up, the sun has started to shine and buds are turning green on the trees. So what does this mean for your skincare regimen?

Just as you spring clean your home, it’s also important to spring clean your cosmetics and creams. Most skincare products have a shelf life and I don’t know about you but I love using a new mascara as it glides on and gives a much better effect.

During the winter months I use a rich emollient moisturiser to combat the effects of cold weather drying out my skin. In the spring it’s time to change to a lighter moisturiser as my skin does not dry out as much and becomes oilier.

As well as a lighter moisturiser, I also switch to a lighter foundation in the spring. Heavier foundations can stop the skin from breathing and appear too heavy in the lighter, brighter spring months. I love Mineralogie Liquid Mineral Foundation which is a light, sheer tint foundation, hydrates the skin without adding oil and allows the natural health and glow of the skin to shine through.

Increase your SPF – although you should use a high SPF all year round this is sometimes overlooked in the winter months. As an alternative to the liquid foundation, try a powder mineral foundation like the Mineralogie loose mineral foundation dispensing brush which is SPF26. This will protect your skin, sunburn doesn’t only happen in the summer!

Put a spring in your step and follow these tips for healthy glowing skin.

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Saint Patrick’s Day is named after the most commonly recognised patron saint of Ireland and is a religious holiday celebrated on March 17th. It was officially made a feast day in the early 17th century and has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture in general. It is a public holiday in The Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Newfoundland and Labrador and in Montserrat.

Observed by the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church and Lutherans the day is traditionally celebrated by going to church, wearing green attire and the lifting of Lenten restrictions on fasting and drinking. Although you now see lots of people dressed in green on Saint Patrick’s Day, the colour original associated with St Patrick was blue. Over time, green has overtaken blue with the wearing of shamrocks and green ribbons.

Although St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, he was actually born in Scotland in the 4th century to roman parents Calpurnius and Conchessa who were living in Britain in charge of the colonies. Around the age of sixteen, St Patrick was captured by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave to herd and tend sheep. During his captivity, he turned to god in prayer and after four years he dreamt that god had told him to leave Ireland by going to the coast. He was reunited with his family and then went on to study to become a priest at the church in Auxerre in Gaul. After years of study, Patrick was called back to Ireland as a bishop to preach the gospel. He converted many and began to build churches all over the country. Irish folklore tells that he used the shamrock as a teaching tool to explain the holy trinity. Patrick died on the 17th March, 461 after 40 years preaching and converting. He performed many miracles and wrote his love of god in his confessions. He had many disciples and although there were more successful missions to Ireland from Rome, St Patrick has endured as the principal champion of Irish Christianity.

St Patrick's Day is massively popular today and is celebrated across the world. The chicago river is dyed green every year. If you go out on St Patrick's Day you'll see people wearing green and silly hats, drinking guiness and other green concoctions and waving shamrocks. So if you are out tonight - enjoy and have a green drink for me!

Cell Fusion C - Coming Very Soon!

Cell Fusion C products with Nano Technology helps to restore skin barrier function.

General cosmetics contain pigments, perfumes, preservatives, germicides, chemical substances etc. These substances react with the intercellular lipid and destroy the bilayered structure of phospholipids which play a major role to maintain the lipid barrier function, and increase Trans Epidermal Water Loss by disconnecting the chains of lipid formation.

Cell Fusion C Products are Different!

They do not use any kind of harmful emulsifiers that form bilipid layers in our skin or have any wash out effects similiar to TEWL. When using Cell Fusion C products you will feel lipid barriers being restored and revitalized.

CMS is a skin care line that stands for Cell Membrane Structure with products that help to provide barrier that keeps irritants out and moisture in by using nanotechnology.

Cell Fusion C is a Korean based company and has attracted a loyal following however the products are not readily available in the UK so we are very pleased to bring you this new range to The Cosmetic Practice. Keep checking as new products are being added daily.
